Free Kadean

Some of you have heard about what is going on with my Lil' Sis, Chelle and her son Kadean. Most of you have not so I am going to fill you in.
Shortly after Led and I were out to visit over the 4th of July (two days after we left to be precise) Chelle discovered that Kadean had bruises all over his butt while she was changing his diaper. Being a concerned mother she took him to the ER, where they determined Kadean to be in good health other than the bruised rear end. They also notified the Denver Department of Social Services, who she hoped would help figure out what happened. Instead they took Kadean away from her and placed him with Meli, our Big Sis, while they investigated. They also took the two girls of the couple that Chelle was staying with and placed them with their grandmother as the whole household was determined to be unfit until the investigation was complete. She was given 2 hours a day of supervised visitation with her little man per day after the setup of a safety plan on 7-10-06, which she obviously took advantage of at every opportunity. Over the next couple of day's Chelle was forced to take quite a bit of time off work so that she could start the fight to get Kadean and the girls back. This including going to multiple interviews looking at apartments, and signing herself up for counseling.

Leading up to my visit I had been informed of a house guest that had also been living with the family, and that he would be moving out the day we got there, so we could have that room. He ended up not leaving and after I left I found out that he had moved out there to follow Chelle. I also found out that he was moving out there under the impression he would be starting a relationship with her. She was not filled in on this however, as he soon came to find out when he was told under no uncertain terms that nothing would happen as long as he was living in the same house as her. There were a couple of Psycho level incidents and he was asked to be out of the house by July 2nd. As I mentioned above, he was not out on that date. From what I have been told he was mentioned as a potential suspect by a couple of people at the beginning of the investigation, but was dismissed by the powers that be because he "spent all his time in his room" while they placed Chelle at the top, since she "was primary care giver at the time of the incident". Never mind the fact that she worked that day and was never alone with Kadean after she got home, or the fact that she rushed him to the ER upon finding the bruising.

So anyway, they (Adams County Social Services) allegedly told him to get as far away from the situation as he could and allegedly proceeded to offer him assistance in finding a job and a place to stay after they told him he had been implicated by two of the people living in the house... (Interesting how that works huh?) So he immediately starts to text them saying all kinds of really nice things. /sarcasm

So after a couple of days the couple Chelle was living with were told that they could get their girls back if she (Sis) moved out. None of this was mentioned to her until a couple of days later, by which point she was already working on getting her own place so they could get the girls back.

The day after she signed the lease on her new apt Kadean was taken from Meli.

The reason sited was that "A reliable source" (Gee I wonder who that might be...) had tipped them off that Chelle had taken him with her while she signed her lease.

The truth of the matter is that Chelle left work that day at about 5:15, picked up a money order ( has receipt stamped 5:32 p.m.), then visited the leasing office to sign paperwork. The leasing office has confirmed the timing, indicating that Chelle arrived at about 5:45 p.m. and leaving at about 6:45 p.m. The leasing agent confirmed that she had never met Chelle’s son when asked to document any interaction she had had with Chelle and Chelle’s son. After signing her lease Chelle visited Meli’s where an approved friend was watching Kadean. Chelled stopped in for her two hours during which she was never alone with her son. Meli confirmed this with the friend in the presence of a Denver P.D. Officer at the time of Kadean’s removal from her care. Did the cops listen or care?

No they did not. They didn't care that Chelle offered them the number of the Leasing agency she had been at the day before. They just took her son and placed him with someone else. Chelle still gets one hour supervised visitation with her son twice a week, but she has no idea where he is staying or how he is being treated while she is not there.

Needless to say; she is fighting to get her son back and has gotten a lawyer to do just that. The unfortunate thing is that the $750.00 Retainer has left her with about $125 to live on till her next pay check. As such I urged her to setup a pay pal account so I and anyone else that would like to can help her stay afloat and pay for the legal fight she has ahead of her. I will be posting a link on the sidebar once I figure the code out, until then send it to kadean.toering at gmail.com.

My family and I thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Another night of sweat, another stripe on my belt.

Last night was night three of Tae Kwan Do, and the first night I was joined by Miss Brandi. She has been reading about my adventures and decided it sounded like a lot of fun. At the end of the night she seemed to have had a great time, and was really excited about the next class. So excited she even asked for home work... what a Brown Noser. She was also already asking when we get to spar, so she can kick my butt. I think I might be in trouble.

So anyway, Lil' Bro and the Step Mom were at a picnic of some sort, so Dad was the only other family member there. I didn't see a lot of him, so I have no knew stories of him getting beat up by a 13 year old girl. Stoner Dude was not there, but Emo Girl was. She was pretty excited to have another female White Belt to work with. Since it was Miss Brandi's first night she started working on the first half of the form as Emo Girl and I worked on One Steps and Details... the next two things we needed to do before we can test for a belt.

Detail is just doing the first form and paying attention to details, such as maintaining eye contact with your target, making sure your feet are the proper distance apart, and your pull back hand is in the right spot. So pretty much just taking the first form to the next level of perfection. The hardest part of it is the foot work. They expect you to stand all messed up most of the time. I am sure it will help with the fighting, but it makes me feel like I am going to fall over.

One Steps are the first steps on the road to sparring. They are pretty much defensive/offensive moves that you start learning early, so they become automatic later on. There are three of them, and they are easy to learn, but hard to master. As they all start out a little bit different but have some of the same moves as the first form in them. Thus you really have to concentrate on what you need to do next, or you start to go through the first form. At one point Sensei Grandpa had us doing them while the other one threw fake kicks and punches. This helped me a lot since it showed what the moves are designed to counter/ block. I was pretty sure I was going to get popped in the mouth a couple times, but I just figured that would be incentive to learn faster. After spending most of the hour on them, I was able to do them without too much difficulty and thus earned another stripe.

Now I just need to practice up on the details.

I might have to steal a page from Miss Brandi and actually practice at home....

I always hated homework.

I'm a White Belt yo!

Wednesday night I returned to the Western Mall for my second night of Tae Kwan Do. This night was much different to Mon as there wasn't really a clear instructor, rather there were an assortment of different level Black Belts wandering around and giving pointers as people worked on what ever they felt like they needed to work on.

Of course all of this started after our "warm up". They refer to it as a warm up, but back in Boot Camp we used to call it a Thrashing. Apparently the Black Belt that lead that portion of the evening is leaving for boot camp himself in a matter of weeks and is using this as a way to "gear up" for it.

This is all information I could have used prior to showing up.

But anyway, the crowd had a few of the people I had met at my prior attempt at athleticism including Stoner Dude, and Too-young-Emo Cute Girl. As we were waiting for the munchkins to finish up a bunch of us were stretching out in the back, when I over heard her say she wanted to go to the new Pirates of the Caribbean(pops) film but was unable as she "couldn't drive". I did not here a yet on there but....she is being still being upgraded to Way-Too-Young-Emo Girl. Stoner Dude continued to try to engage me in conversation, and I continued to ignore and/or grunt at him. He doesn't seem to be getting the idea that I do not want to talk to him. I did find out that he is there on a one month trial basis. So if anyone were interested in joining me in my futile attempt at physical fitness that might be the way to go. The two of us ended up with a pretty cool 4th Level Black Belt who worked with us and the Emo girl on our forms. My Dad loaned me a Belt and informed me I could wear black wind pants (which I happen to have) so I was semi in uniform this time. Since Sensei Grandpa was not there I could not get the yellow stripe he said I had earned on Monday. It ended up not being a big deal as Mr. 4th level skipped over it and gave me the next stripe anyway, Woo Hoo!!
Once we did that he left us to continue working on the form with a few more pointers.
Around this time I looked over and noticed that my Dad was in sparing gear facing off against someone else. Since my Step Mom had to work and was not there I assumed this was someone else from the class, I was wrong but I will get to that in a bit. So Dad was getting in a couple of good hits but for the most part was getting his ass handed to him. For those of you that have met my father, which is very few, I am sure you can imagine this. For those of you who have not met my father I need to explain. All or most of the people that read this know me, or have at least met me a time or two, so I am sure you know I am a pretty laid back person most of the time. I don't get real excited about most things, and I'm not one to fly off the handle. My dad makes me look like a hyperactive 2 year old. Nothing phases this man, well maybe not nothing.... My sailor mouth tends to get a raised eyebrow when I let it slip, but I digress. My dad is about one step away from a coma most of the time. He never raises his voice above a whisper, unless there is a running engine near by, and even then you have to really strain to hear him. So anyway here he is in sparring gear attempting to hit someone... I'm about cracking up because he has no clue what he is doing. The man is 53 years old and even though he spent 3 years in the Army I doubt he has ever thrown a punch in anger. Well after I watch him get his ass kicked for a bit they stop fighting and remove their gear to reveal his fearsome opponent.....

A 13 year old girl.

To his Credit, she is a higher belt class whatever than him, and her dad was one of the wandering Black Belts. So I am guessing she has been doing this for a while.

My only hope is that she has moved on by the time I need a sparring partner. Because I am pretty sure she will whoop my ass too.

I know Kung Foo

Ok, maybe not...

But I did start going to tae kwon do(pops) classes. You may ask why an over weight, out of shape, thirty year old would do this. Well.... my Dad, Step Mom, and Little Brother have been going for a while and throughout the entire process they have requested my presence. I am not real sure why, but I finally felt guilty enough to say I would go. It didn't help that Dad informed me there were quite a few single young women in the class either. So Monday night I threw on a white t-shirt, jeans, and flip flops and headed off to get my ass kicked. When I arrived some of the younger Black Belts were going through training with the Bo (pops)or staff. One of them was in the same class as my little brother, so he was around 11 or 12, and just over three foot tall. That's right folks he was a three foot tall black belt, and his name.... Mini Mitch. The kid was way into his technique, swinging and spinning his Bo with abandon, to the point of almost walking into the swing of one of the other mini black belts wailing away with his Bo. To tell you the truth, I bet the little bastard could take me.... Mainly because he looked scary as shit. Kind of like Warwick Davis in Leprechaun(pops) only without the goofy shoes and beard.

So anyway the tiny black belts leave and the lower level kiddies take the mat, including Lil' Bro all duded up in sparring gear. They warmed up and then paired off for some one on one sparring. Lil Bro, got tapped by a girl about his height (so probably a little older than him as he is pretty tall) and looked about ready to run when he saw who it was. The first couple minutes were pretty amusing as he struggled with overcoming years of "no hitting girls" conditioning. Getting kicked in the head a couple of times seemed to help with that. Eventually he started to fight back and seemed to be having a pretty good time.

While the Lil Bro was getting beat up by a girl I went off to find a uniform... unfortunately they do not carry uniforms for giants, so I ended up staying in my Jeans.... just so you know, jeans are not conducive to kicking and jumping and stuff. Especially when you are as fat and out of shape as I am. Needless to say I was sweating profusely within minutes of walking onto the mat. We did some warm up work and then were split into several groups. The Newbie's; Myself and some skinny little stoner kid (hereafter known as Stoner Dude) were sent off to the back with Sensei Grandpa, a bald white dude in his 60's with a black belt. The Kind of New People; a group of middle aged soccer moms, and one cute but too young Emo girl (hereafter known as Too-Young-Emo Cute One). The Been There Awhile group; My Dad and Step Mom, and a couple of other folks including one cute one (hereafter known as the Cute One), and a lady that was a champion body builder... She wasn't so cute (rather scary in fact), but she used to bench 500+ pounds competitively.

So once we all got started The Master (7th Degree Black Belt) wandered around and talked to all the groups with women in them, and avoided The Newbie's. We were walked through the first form, which consists of about 16 different punches kicks and blocks. I was set to learn, but Stoner Dude wanted to chat every time Sensei Grandpa went over to check on the other Newbie type people. He wanted to know what made me want to learn, what I thought of this, that and the other thing... Most of the time I phased him out and gave him a nod, or grunt when it seemed appropriate. At one point he asked if I wanted to "see if we can like, do it in synch" I passed up the opportunity to question his sexuality and said I was still trying to learn the moves. That and I was distracted by the Cute One stretching.

Shortly after this I looked up and saw my Dad and Step Mom squared off in full sparring gear. They didn't seem to be getting into the whole sparring thing, so a younger girl that was still hanging out and the Cute One jumped in to help them get the hang of it without feeling awkward. I really didn't get a chance to watch them since Sensei Grandpa was still working with Stoner Dude and me on our form.

So, long story shortened a little bit, after about an hour I was sweating like mad, had a chat with the Too-Young-Emo Cute One, ogled the Cute One, avoided chatting with Stoner Dude, and had a pretty good time.
Hopefully I'll be able to get a uniform in super big extra fat guy size soon too...
